Christian Service Overview
"... humbly welcome the word that has been planted in you and is able to save your souls. Be doers of the word and not hearers only ..." James 1: 21-22
Christian Service is an expectation for every student and a graduation requirement. Christian Service is directly connected to a student’s Theology course and successful completion of service requirements is factored into the student’s third quarter grade. A student cannot pass their third quarter Theology class if their service is not completed by the specified deadline.
Any student, who fails to complete his Christian Service requirements prior to the beginning of the next academic year, may not continue at St. Francis. A student must have completed a total of one hundred (100) service hours to graduate. Seniors must have completed their Christian Service requirements in order to graduate.
Ask yourself these questions when thinking of where to complete your Christian Service hours:
How does my service fulfill the criteria of the "least of these" in the Gospel of Matthew, the Corporal Works of Mercy? How does this action provide for the disregarded, impoverished, destitute or the oppressed? Are the ones being served from poverty, special needs or other challenges? Can you develop a personal relationship with the ones you serve?
All forms for Christian Service are located on the SFS website in the FORMS section or click here.

Senior Year
Policies for Completing Service
Seniors are required to complete at least 30 hours of Christian service at an approved agency. The supervisor evaluation, minimum 30 hours of service and self-reflection are due upon completion. The deadline for all service can be found on the Campus Ministry Calendar, between February and April. This is a graduation requirement.
Students need to make contact with the agency they selected at the Christian Service Fair. If an agency is not at the Christian Service Fair, the student needs to request approval of placement by the Christian Service Coordinator. A pre-approved list of agencies is located on SFS website.
Upon completion of Christian Service requirement the student needs the following:
1) Evaluation Form must be given to agency supervisor as you begin and completed at the end of service
2) Write your Self Reflection Assessment following the directions and turn into Christian Service office.
3) Meet with Christian Service Coordinator for a Post-Service Interview
**ATTENTION**
Not all agencies meet the senior year requirement. For this reason, seniors complete a commitment form at the Christian Service held in spring. If your 1st or 2nd placement falls through, you MUST contact the Christian Service Coordinator for APPROVAL prior to starting somewhere not listed on your Commitment form. If there is another opportunity, pre-approval is needed by the Christian Service Coordinator. This ensures that your placement meets the requirements for Senior Service. Failure to do so will result in starting over. This is a graduation requirement.
Junior Year

Juniors may serve at more than one agency to complete the 30-hour requirement that meets the Corporal Works of Mercy. A pre-approved list of agencies is located on SFS website.
Students must make sure the agency is approved prior to service. Juniors may serve up to a total of 10 hours for service to St. Francis outside of school time.
Christian Service opportunities will be communicated to juniors through a variety of methods including daily announcements, posting on a designated bulletin board, and posting on the SFS website.
The minimum 30 hours of service and verification/reflection log are due upon completion but no later than March 1st.
