The Student Achievement Center serves as an extension of the classroom. It is designed to provide academic support services to a diverse community of learners in a nurturing, student-centered environment. It is architecturally designed to be an inviting space for everyone. The SAC is utilized by more than half the student body on a daily basis.
The Achievement Center is designed to be a dedicated space for Academic Enhancement. It provides all students with the personalized tools and support for academic success. Students are able to work individually, in groups, or with a personal tutor. Students have access to meeting rooms equipped with Apple TV. The center also provides an enclosed testing room. These rooms provide an area for individual students to take tests with accommodations if needed. St. Francis utilizes an online library linked with the University of Toledo. This online library also provides access to various links to other resources, libraries, and research databases.
The Student Achievement Center staff is trained and certified. These professionals provide individual academic coaching. This partnership focuses on the 'process of learning'. Together academic coaches and students examine their learning styles, work habits, and current difficulties or barriers to success. Together, this team of coach and student work to create and put into place effective strategies. This process is individualized for each student. The goal is to heighten awareness of what it takes to achieve academic success, create a supportive relationship, and personal accountability.
We are proud of the fact that all students utilize the Achievement Center. It is a place where students can go to receive help or to offer help. Often times there are Knights tutoring Knights. In addition to this, the Student Achievement Center provides extensive tutoring services for students in all areas. Many teachers, professionals and retired educators volunteer their time in the center. This free tutoring is offered throughout the day and after school. Students are able to schedule a time for tutoring as needed or on a drop in basis.
Testing Policies and Procedures
The center proctors exams during class times or after school, or make-up tests and exams for faculty who are unable to administer them. A testing request form is required for center staff to proctor exams. Testing request forms are available at the Front Desk of the Achievement Center.
-
When dropping off a test, the instructor must submit a testing request form detailing the student’s name, the instructor’s name, class, deadline for the test to be administered, materials that can be used during testing, and the allotted time for the test to be taken. The testing form is authorization for the Center to proctor the exam.
-
Students will not be allowed to bring any items into the testing area. Testing instructions from faculty will be the only exceptions (i.e. calculator, notes, textbook). Be sure to detail instructions under “Testing Instructions” portion of the form.
-
Students will not be allowed to leave the testing area and return to the exam. If a student leaves the exam room for any reason, the test will be collected and considered completed.
-
Once the test has been completed, The instructor is to pick up the exam.
Per the teacher’s approval and the Guidance Department, the Achievement Center provides testing services to those students who need to make up missed tests or exams.
The following rules apply to students who use the testing services in the Center:
-
Students must present their school ID for verification.
-
Students are not allowed to bring any items into the testing area unless items are specified from the faculty and Guidance Department.
-
Students must adhere to the time limit and deadline of the test or exam. When the time limit expires, the student must stop. Students who miss the deadline must go their teacher for an extension.
-
Students are not allowed to leave the testing area and return to the exam. If a student leaves the exam room for any reason, the test will be collected and considered complete.
-
Students are not allowed to return tests to the teacher. The teacher will pick the exam up for collection.
